The Pro Vice-Chancellor Flexible Learning reports to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Learning Teaching & Student Services. The Pro Vice-Chancellor Flexible Learning will also work closely with the Senior Management Team (SMT) and provide support to the SMT and Vice-Chancellor in implementing the University’s Strategic Plan, in relation to flexible learning, and cutting-edge, new pedagogies. 

The Pro Vice-Chancellor Flexible learning will direct the University’s Flexible Learning Policy and Strategy and provide leadership in the delivery of the USP Strategic Plan goals for flexible learning programmes and innovation. 

The Pro Vice-Chancellor Flexible Learning also serves as Director of the Centre for Flexible Learning. He or she is responsible for leadership of the Centre, and management of the activities and performance of its team. The appointee will coordinate the University’s focus on increasing the number of blended and online programmes offered by the University. 

The Opportunity                                     

The appointee will assist the Deputy Vice-Chancellor LTSS in implementing key areas of the University’s Strategic Plan and achieving its strategic goal objectives. A key function of this role will be providing the Deputy Vice-Chancellor LTSS with sound advice on flexible learning, in terms of policy, strategic and operational planning and quality review processes. 

The appointee will have the overall responsibility for leading the development and actively monitoring the implementation of the University’s Flexible Learning Policy, Strategy, and the mainstreaming of teaching practices that enhance learning and the delivery of the University’s flexible learning programmes across the 12 nations served by USP. 

The incumbent will support the Faculty Deans and Campus Directors with respect to the University Flexible Learning Plan, to better enable the USP to achieve its strategic goals and objectives, promote and enable it to facilitate excellence in learning and teaching in all Flexible Learning modes locally, regionally and internationally. 

The Pro Vice-Chancellor Flexible Learning also serves as Director of the Centre for Flexible Learning and is responsible for developing it collaboratively with the Faculties and Campuses for high quality and innovative learning experiences for the region in both formal, continuing and community education and providing opportunities for staff and students to develop exemplary and innovative learning and teaching practices and skills. 

 

Remuneration
The position is available for a term of 3 years and may be renewed by mutual agreement.

Salary Range:  FJ $151, 756 to FJ $ 228, 338 per annum (Inclusive of 15% Gratuity)

To be considered for this position, applicants must have:

- A PhD level qualification and the achievement of the rank of Professor or Associate Professor; 
- Be appointable at the Professor level; 
- Be a senior academic with a strong research reputation, and have a strong publication record in a relevant area; 
- Substantial relevant experience as a senior academic with excellent academic credibility, intellectual curiosity and the ability to understand the values and culture of the University and the concerns of the students; 
- A track record of personal excellence in leading and managing a team of staff, preferably a team of flexible learning staff; 
- Experience in promoting equality and diversity in staff/student issues; 
- Ability to lead, work with and command the respect of academic communities including both staff, students and professional support staff.
